THE 2021 ENSEMBLE
Kiira Laurikka
Kiira Laurikka is a visual designer based in Helsinki. She loves to work in interdisciplinary methods, or whatever allows her to justify buying new art equipment. (Producer’s note: Kiira is also the talent behind our beautiful new visual design and you can view more of her incredible work here.
Mel Salmi
Mel Salmi is a part of the original Ensemble and the only one of that group that’s still participating in the 31-day version of the challenge because apparently she likes casually flirting with the risk of a burnout. Mel is based in Helsinki at the moment, but (in non-apocalyptic, non-pandemic times) splits her time between Finland and Portland, Maine. She will be making weird noises / 1-minute songs to be paired with Kiira’s visual March Ensemble pieces.
M.E. 2021 is all about our visiting artists aka “Extended Ensemble” — creators that will join our challenge for 1 dedicated day. Nevertheless, Kiira and Mel are diving into the deep end and embarking on the traditional March Ensemble challenge: “Create and share art every day in March. 31 days, 31 pieces.” It might look like a small crew, but Kiira and Mel will be joined by over 20 visiting artists (!!)

THE 2020 ENSEMBLE
NOORA KULTA
Noora makes art because there’s no other choice.
This month she’ll be creating poetry, lyrics, paintings and maybe some music. She’ll release a piece every day - some new, some previously unpublished work.
Noora is a part of the original Ensemble and posted a piece of art every day in 03/19.
HERTTA TUOMI
Hertta is a storyteller, visual artist and heart-driven philosopher. Always searching the understanding of the magical "woman's place".
She will be posting something drawn, written and ceramics, planning to do that everyday.
AMBER CHILTON
Amber {she/her} is a photographer, videographer, designer and Spice Girl. She navigates the world with a high level of passion, empathy and a whole lot of love. Amber believes representation is everything. It shapes the way we perceive different cultures, identities and bodies through similar and contrasting experiences and ideologies.
She is here to create spaces for marginalized identities. To listen. To share. To accept and embrace. Amber strives to break the industry filled with gatekeeping, judgement and exclusion. Rather to share authentic stories of real people and our connections - to ourselves - to each other - and to our world around us. ️
Goals for March Ensemble 2020: to release art at least twice a week - but striving for more. Also, to explore some work outside of typical portraitures - instead how can I translate feelings and identity into new styles and mediums.
SOKVONNY CHHOUK
Sokvonny (suh-kwon-nee) is a graphic designer, photographer, and filmmaker in Portland, Maine.
While sipping on iced coffee or boba, she’s always thinking about words and thoughts that have been unsaid.
HANNES HOKKANEN
Hannes thinks you should not limit your creativity to one thing or even a few. That’s why there’s going to be a wide variety of art forms to expect from him this month.
Hannes studies the oddities of people, nature and architecture.
He is based in Tampere, Finland.
MEL SALMI
Mel still just wants to make some weird/rough/embarrassing poetry, video art, and music. This month she’ll try to shake off some creative self-doubt and enjoy the process of making art without boundaries and expectations.
Mel is a part of the original Ensemble and posted a new piece of art every day of 03/19.
MATTHEW SHARER
Matthew is an illustrator and screen printer trying to find the balance between being a creative for a living and still holding on to the bits that make creating cathartic.
Matthew will be drawing and experimenting with other mediums for the month of march as an attempt to shake the winter blues from his bones.
THE 2019 ENSEMBLE
MACKENZIE BARTLETT
Mackenzie is a filmmaker, kitsch witch, and community arts organizer. Her horror films have been screened internationally, and are often the result of her insufferable feminist rage.
MEL SALMI
Mel wants to record some weird noises & maybe pick up that old polaroid at some point this month. She lives and makes videos and films in Portland, Maine, but did the growing up and going to college thing in Finland. Helsinki is where she met:
NOORA KULTA
Noora reads poetry and sings to people on the internet. She’s s a Helsinki-based filmmaker, photographer, journalist, vlogger, you name it. Last year, she shot and published a video blog every day for a month, but this time around she’ll be sharing a variety of her creations.
