I was confused about timing. Time is different postpartum. I didn’t check my email in time. I saw my prompt in the afternoon and panicked (emotions are different postpartum). But I have always made my March Ensemble pieces within constraints - usually related to time, space, children, mothering. My first thoughts are ego driven; how can I make something people will like? Something that proves I am smart, creative, not “just a mother”?
Silly. Go simple.
My days are punctuated by repetitive sounds - clucks from my chickens, little cries from my third daughter, shushing from my mouth. Meditations. Onomatopoeias. Cluck. Shh.
Mothering, after all, is a creative act. Building a life, what could be smarter? I have made something I like. Just a mother, indeed.
