“i immediately thought of one of my favorite things: walking to work in the summer, stopping at the farmers market for treats and a bouquet of flowers, and continuing on my walking route. i live in a very small town and have my own small intimate relationships with each storefront i walk past every day (whether i have been in or not). each of them serves as small markers that make up a daily landscape through their signage, decoration, music, people using their outdoor seating, etc. the barber shop is right in the middle of my route and i pass by that barber's pole during such a joyful summer routine.” - @sophie_cangelosi

“The Barber's Pole identified a place of community, of discovery & discourse. It brought people together to discuss ideas new & old. It was a place where everyone therein stood on the same ground, or sat in the same barber's chair. And the ocean has always been the great equalizer, and my own personal shoulder-to-cry-on as I navigate the waters of creative identity.”
