Prompt: “Backyard”

“Thomas spiked a fever this weekend that caused him to hallucinate; he spoke in tongues about solving a riddle from a witch. It also snowed. This surreal backdrop had us dreaming about spring in our little backyard garden. Thomas decided to make a diorama about Snow White, and he drew the apple because he didn’t trust Mommy not to eat a real one.”

“This prompt took me back, man. My childhood home in Florida had a big backyard with a pool. And damn is that place filled to the brim with memories… With richness on both sides of the spectrum- from intense fear to irrevocable joy. I went through some pictures of the past… And I was reminded of some painfully beautiful specs of time. When I was a kid it felt like there was a dark cloud over my house, but the backyard always let the light in.”
