Prompt: “Three colors”

“My first thought upon seeing my prompt was of my three daughters.  I wondered how I could incorporate them into a piece.  Then I thought of drawing or painting with only three colors.  Then I realized "why do they have to be three colors?  Three colors could simply mean three of one color, right?", and so on and so forth.  The fact of the matter is, I only had time to make this after my husband got home from work and I could run upstairs, abandoning my three daughters, to create.  I had the thought to use their hair, three distinct colors after all.  As is the case with my brain and thus my process, one path was not sufficient, so I filmed the making of my piece.  Three White Horses by Andrew Bird has sort of been on repeat in my mind since I received the prompt; a song I listened to obsessively while at school in France, long before I had children.  After my daughters were tucked in for bed, I went out to tuck the chickens in for the night.  Three colors.  I am forever interested in the passage of time, memory, interconnection.  Clues, signs, messages.”
